The dancers divide the floor into dance lanes on the Line of Dance (LOD),
with the outside lane being described as the "FAST" lane. This is where you should be if you're doing
a progressive dance (like the Progressive 2-Step or Waltz). Depending on the size of the dance floor there may be an
inside lane for slower dancers. If you're dancing slower then others, stay on the inside LOD and allow the fast
dancers to pass you on the outside LOD.
Line Dancers and Stationary
Dancers are usually located in the Center of Hall (COH). It is inadvisable to move to close to the COH or cut across
it and disrupt their dancing. The reverse is the same, Line Dancers and Stationary Dancers should stay in the COH
and not disturb the LOD. Some dance in corners as well. As long as the LOD isn't being blocked, progressive
dancers should adjust their dancing route slightly, if at all.
When dancing in any of the lanes, do not back up or stop, nor dance against the flow. Keep a
lookout for other dancers to avoid collisions. What would happen to you if you ran a red light in your car? What
are the chances that you get hit? Guys, how often does a woman want to dance with a guy that can't drive?
This is just simple courtesy... trust me, women spread the word on this quickly.
There are many different styles of dancing
and dancers that can be accommodated on the floor at the same time. By following these simple rules everyone
can have an enjoyable experience.
